DESIGN

An enduring expression
of identity

Design has always been a founding pillar of Experimental. More than a visual identity, it is a language — one that gives form to ideas, atmosphere and emotion. At Experimental, design is never decorative. It is intentional, contextual and deeply connected to the experience of each place.

Bespoke design as a Signature

No two Experimental places look alike — and that is precisely the point. Each space is designed as a bespoke response to its context, architecture and surroundings. Rather than applying a fixed aesthetic, Experimental approaches design as an ongoing dialogue between place, use and emotion.

Materials, proportions and light are carefully considered to create interiors that feel natural and lived-in. The result is a collection of spaces that share a common sensibility, yet remain entirely unique — modern without being rigid, expressive without being overstated.

Design becomes the first encounter with the place, shaping how it is felt before it is understood.

Rooted in place

Genuine local roots and a strong sense of place guide every design decision. Each Experimental destination is conceived as a natural extension of its environment — reflecting the culture, rhythm and character of its location.

Far from copy-paste models, hotels, bars and restaurants draw inspiration from local heritage and collaborate closely with local artisans, makers and creatives. It is not about escaping the city or the landscape, but about experiencing it differently — through a space that feels alive, grounded and real.

Architecture and interiors become a way to belong, rather than to stand apart.

Designers, creators
& collaborations

Experimental’s visual universe is shaped through long-term collaborations with designers and creators who share the same sensitivity for place, material and atmosphere. These creative partnerships form the backbone of the group’s aesthetic coherence.

"A partnership 17 years in the making, a shared vision of hospitality. Each place locally made, paying respect to the local culture, crafts and history where each design tells a unique story. Working alongside Experimental, we pride ourselves on crafting amazing experiences for our guests, who are at the centre of all our thinking."

Stereo x Studio Afroditi

Designed by the London-based studio Afroditi, under the direction of its founder Afroditi Krassa, the space is a celebration of cinematic nightlife. Blending influences from the golden age of New York clubs with industrial elegance, the design plays with light and shadow and raw materials to create an immersive music-led setting. Here, STEREO and Afroditi Krassa redefine modern clubbing, where the venue’s architecture becomes the first act of a timeless evening.

Martini Carpet

A signature feature of the Grand Pigalle Hotel, the "Martini" patterned carpet creates a connection between the comfort of a neighbourhood home and the excitement of cocktails. This textile collaboration, conceived by Dorothée Meilichzon, dresses the corridors and rooms with a bold graphic touch. It embodies the essence of Experimental: relaxed luxury where every detail, down to the floor, tells the story of a Parisian nightlife lifestyle.

At the Grand Pigalle Experimental, the art of hospitality is embodied in a precious detail: the golden pineapple door knocker. A historical emblem of welcome, this fruit is reinterpreted here by Dorothée Meilichzon as a playful nod to the world of cocktails, the very DNA of Experimental. This small sculptural brass object, adorning every guest room door, invites travellers to explore a universe where hotel comfort meets the spirit of cocktail culture.

Collection Cielo Par Ames x Regina Experimental Biarritz

Colombian design infuses the Regina Experimental atrium with vibrant energy through the Cielo collection, created by designer Sebastian Herkner for Ames. These chairs and tables, recognisable by their colorful tubular steel frames and handcrafted weaving of recycled plastic strands, reinterpret traditional “Momposino” techniques in a decidedly modern silhouette. By incorporating these pieces with their pastel and graphic tones, Experimental creates a bold contrast with the hotel’s Belle Époque architecture, offering a contemporary and playful take on lounge furniture.

Charlotte Perriand Reference

At Henrietta Experimental, the design celebrates a distinctly modernist clarity. Bathed in natural light streaming through its large glass windows, the space unfolds across a warm solid oak floor, serving as a showcase for a collection of modular furniture inspired by the work of Charlotte Perriand. This approach, orchestrated by Experimental, prioritises functionality and clean lines. The modular tables, with their organic yet rational forms, adapt to the rhythm of London life, creating a harmonious dialogue between the Victorian architecture of the Covent Garden neighborhood and the avant-garde of 20th-century French design.

Mirrors Inspired by Carlo Scarpa

At the heart of Il Palazzo Experimental, the bar designed by Cristina Celestino pays a vibrant tribute to the aesthetic of the Venetian master Carlo Scarpa. The antique mirrors, with their geometric shapes and intricate details, capture the light of the lagoon and expand the perspectives of the lounge. This visual collaboration between Experimental and Scarpa’s legacy is evident in the meticulous attention paid to the junctions of materials—glass, brass, and stucco—creating an atmosphere where Venice’s historical melancholy meets the rigor of Italian modernism.

Experimental x Ingo Maurer

The monumental architecture of the atrium gently recedes, giving way to the ethereal poetry of Ingo Maurer. The Floatation pendants, delicate sculptures in Japanese paper, inhabit the space with an airy lightness, gently softening its grand proportions.

Renowned for its experimental approach to light, the German design house creates pieces that diffuse a delicate, textured glow, offering a subtle contrast to the rigor of Belle Époque lines. Under the direction of Experimental, these lights transform the space into a dreamlike retreat, where contemporary elegance meets a distinctly timeless spirit.

Its low profile and wide armrests—designed to hold a drink or a book—invite you to completely unwind. By choosing this icon of Scandinavian design with Iberian accents, Experimental highlights an authentic luxury where the patina of time and the nobility of raw materials celebrate the island’s serenity.

An ethos evolving

Experimental’s design universe is shaped by ongoing dialogue and occasional encounters. Alongside long-term collaborators, the group regularly invites designers, artists and creators to take part in temporary projects from installations and scenography to site-specific interventions that bring new perspective to our spaces.

LOCATIONS

A journey that started in Paris, in the summer of 2007. A bar on a quiet street, the start of Paris’ cocktail renaissance. As the years went on, new chapters turned, from new cities, to restaurants and finally hotels. Today, Experimental can be found across Paris, London, New York, Venice, Verbier, Val d’Isere, Ibiza, Menorca and out in the British countryside. Each location inspired by the world around it.
